Three Rivers Classic College Hockey Tournament: Robert Morris beats Penn State

Aided by a barrage of three goals in the final 3:27 of the first period, Robert Morris beat Penn State 6-0 in the first game of the inaugural Three Rivers Classic at Consol Energy Center.

The win gives the Colonials a date in the tournament's championship Saturday at 7:30 p.m. against either Ohio State or Miami (Ohio).

Andrew Blazek opened the scoring for Robert Morris 1:49 into the game, and the line of Adam Brace, Cody Wydo and David Friedmann accounted for the trio of goals at the end of the period. The first came from Brace and the next two from Wydo.

Matt Cope and Tyler Hinds tacked on third-period goals for the final margin.

Robert Morris goalie Eric Levine made 48 saves for his second shutout of the season.

Penn State lost its leading scorer, David Glen, late in the second period when he was given a five-minute major and game misconduct for contact to the head on a hit on Blazek behind the Robert Morris net.

The Colonials' championship opponent will be determined when the Buckeyes and RedHawks face off tonight at Consol Energy Center. The Nittany Lions will take on the loser of that contest in the championship game Saturday.
