Of note: Clint Barmes (1 for 2) made the start at second base and roped a double to left field that scored Robert Andino from second in the second inning.

News of the day

The Pirates are scheduled to face former teammate A.J. Burnett and the Philadelphia Phillies Sunday at Bright House Field in Clearwater, Fla., an anticipated meeting that should provide some early March theater.

"It's not the first time it's happened in the game. Probably a little weird because all I've seen him in the last two years is in our uniform," manager Clint Hurdle said. "It's part of the game, so outside of that there won't be much time to chat. He'll be prepping to pitch then he'll be out of there. ... We're looking forward to playing. We're looking forward to seeing him."

Burnett, who recently signed with the Phillies, will be making his debut this spring.

Jeff Locke, who isn't scheduled to pitch, will not travel to Clearwater -- which is customary -- but said he thinks it has the makings of a great game.

"I think it'll be special for him," Locke said. "I think it's going to be a good look for our guys to see someone like that because I think pretty much during the whole season with him being here, pitchers and hitters always jaw back and forth, teammates joking. ... I know for a fact he's excited, just because he's getting out there to pitch again. I know for a fact we'll be ready and we'll be excited."

Injury update

Gaby Sanchez was scratched from the lineup with discomfort in his right knee. Hurdle said the discomfort began after a slide Friday in a game against the Toronto Blue Jays. He is day to day. ... Phil Irwin did not make his scheduled appearance Friday against Toronto due to pain in his right elbow. Irwin will begin a throwing program before returning to games ... Travis Ishikawa is day to day with discomfort in his right hamstring.
