Pirates acquire Phil Coke from Yankees

MILWAUKEE — As injuries keep two relievers out of action for almost the entire month of September, the Pirates today added to their bullpen by purchasing left-hander Phil Coke from the New York Yankees.

A.J. Schugel was expected to return to the bullpen Tuesday night but instead will return to Pittsburgh for more tests on his sore right shoulder. Neftali Feliz, who has an upper arm injury, is only playing catch at this point.

Coke, 34, has pitched in the majors for parts of nine seasons for the Yankees, Detroit Tigers, Cubs and Blue Jays. He spent most of this season with Class AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barres in the Yankees organization, where he had a 2.96 ERA in 20 games, 11 starts.
