PennDOT Secretary Leslie S. Richards was elected chairwoman of the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission on Tuesday.
Ms. Richards, the state's first female head of the transportation department, called it "an equally remarkable privilege" to also be the first woman to head the turnpike commission.
The board's previous chairman, Sean Logan, resigned in February to accept a paid appointment to the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board. His replacement, former state senator John Wozniak of Johnstown, was confirmed by the state Senate on July 9 and attended his first meeting Tuesday.
