Pa. reports 3 more cases of Zika

The number is the most reported in the state in a one-week period since February, pushing Pennsylvania’s number to 11 so far.

Three more cases of Zika virus were confirmed in the last week in the state, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health's update today — the most in any one week period since the state started making regular updates in early February.

Those new cases raise the total number of confirmed cases in the state to 11, though there are 211 people still waiting for their test results to come back from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The CDC is handling all test analysis, which can take two weeks for results after blood is drawn.

No details were released about the state's new cases, as has been the case throughout the course of the Zika virus updates the state has provided since the beginning of February.

None of the three new cases in the state were in Allegheny County. The Allegheny County Health Department this afternoon updated their statistics and said that there still has not been one confirmed Zika case in the county, though 50 people in the county have been tested.

The county, state and federal health agencies are most concerned with people who have recently traveled to Zika-affected countries. If someone who has visited those countries shows symptoms of Zika within two weeks of their visit, they are asked to visit a health provider.

Symptoms - which are usually mild and last up to a week - include fever, rash, joint pain and red eyes.
