HARRISBURG — A new poll shows Pennsylvania’s gubernatorial race tightening slightly as Republican Gov. Tom Corbett picks up support among likely voters, but Democrat Tom Wolf still leads by 17 percentage points.
Quinnipiac University pollsters said today that Mr. Wolf is backed by 55 percent of voters judged likely to cast ballots and Mr. Corbett by 38 percent. That compares to a September survey showing likely voters supporting Mr. Wolf over Mr. Corbett by a 24-point margin.
Quinnipiac spokesman Tim Malloy attributes the shift to Republicans trickling to Mr. Corbett’s camp in the closing weeks of the campaign, but says time is not on Mr. Corbett’s side.
Nov. 4 is Election Day. The candidates will hold their third and final debate Wednesday at WTAE-TV studios.
The telephone poll of 907 likely voters was conducted from Sept. 30 through Sunday. The sampling error margin is plus or minus 3.3 percentage points.
