Trump doubles-down on 'Pittsburgh, not Paris' with D.C. rally

Politico reports that President Donald Trump’s campaign has announced a “Pittsburgh, not Paris” rally Saturday morning next to the Andrew Jackson statue in Lafayette Square across from the White House to celebrate withdrawal from the global climate agreement.

In announcing the withdrawal, the President controversially claimed he was elected to look out for the interests of Pittsburgh not Paris. Trump lost Pittsburgh to Hillary Clinton, and Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto pledged the city would continue its commitment to the Paris agreement to reduce production of greenhouse gasses.

According to Politico:

The Fairfax County Republican Committee and the Republican Party of Virginia are sponsoring the rally in Lafayette Square, which is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, according to an announcement from the Trump campaign.

“As you know, the President has been under siege from the mainstream media and the Democrats, especially now that he put American jobs first by withdrawing from the Paris Accord. Therefore, we are organizing a group to demonstrate our support for President Trump and his fearless leadership,” the invitation reads.

It also notes that “environmentalists gathered in Lafayette Square after Trump’s announcement Thursday to protest the decision.”
