Former Vice President Joe Biden is in Pittsburgh today to show support for Democrat Conor Lamb, who’s running in a tight race against Republican Rick Saccone in a special election to fill former Congressman Tim Murphy’s seat in the 18th District.
Meanwhile, President Donald Trump has planned a visit to Pittsburgh on Saturday to stump for Mr. Saccone, a state representative. A rally will be held at Atlantic Aviation in Moon at 7 p.m.
Mr. Biden is appearing at two events on Tuesday: a rally with union members at the Carpenters Training Center in Collier, followed by a 6 p.m. event at Robert Morris University’s Yorktown Hall. Doors for the Robert Morris event open at 5 p.m.
A visit from Mr. Biden, who has said Mr. Lamb has “a genuine chance of winning” the March 13 election against Mr. Saccone, has been anticipated for weeks. He was last in Pittsburgh in mid-February as part of a book tour. And while he didn’t address the race specifically, he did urge Democrats to reconnect with voters on economic issues.
The 18th Congressional District includes several municipalities of southern Allegheny County, and parts of Washington, Westmoreland and Greene counties.
Mr. Biden will be back in Pittsburgh on March 16 for an event honoring the late Steelers owner Dan Rooney at Duquesne University.
