A former West Mifflin Area High School teacher accused of having sex with a student in his classroom pleaded guilty Thursday in Allegheny County Common Pleas Court.
James Horgan, 46, of Upper St. Clair, pleaded to a single count of institutional sex assault after admitting to having a sexual relationship he had with one his students.
On Thursday, Judge Jill Rangos sentenced Horgan to five years probation. He must also register as Megan's Law offender for the next 25 years and is forbidden from contacting the victim.
In the criminal complaint, the victim told police she had sex with Horgan in the back of his classroom about four times in a month.
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette does not identify victims of sexual assault.
Horgan had worked at the high school for 22 years and taught Advanced Placement Psychology.
His attorney could not immediately be reached for comment.
