One dead, one missing after kayakers get caught in Ohio River dam

One body has been recovered after two kayakers got caught in a dam Saturday in the Ohio River near Edgeworth, officials said.

An Allegheny County spokeswoman said two “young” women were kayaking in the river when they got caught in the Dashields Locks and Dam.

Boaters found the body of Brittany Evans, 25, of West View floating in the river about 6:20 p.m., officials said. Two kayaks have also been recovered.

The search for the other woman was called off at sundown.

Investigators were trying to determine how they got caught in the dam.

The Crescent Township police and fire departments were investigating.
