Bicyclist flown to hospital after Route 51 crash in Beaver County

A bicyclist was seriously injured when a vehicle struck him this morning in Beaver County.

The bicyclist, a 54-year-old man, was flown to UPMC Presbyterian following the incident, which occurred around 5:40 a.m. at Jordan Street and Route 51 in South Heights, according to authorities.

Hopewell police Chief Brian Uhrmacher said the man suffered “significant injuries.” He was found unresponsive at the scene, officials said.

The driver was uninjured.

Portions of Route 51 were shut down for a while near the Ambridge-Aliquippa Bridge.

Hopewell police and county detectives are investigating the cause of the incident.
