DEP searching for missing gauge containing nuclear material

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection is asking the public to help it find a missing nuclear gauge that contains some radioactive material.

The DEP says the gauge is owned by Solar Testing of Pennsylvania.

The DEP says the company found it missing March 13 during a routine inventory check and says the gauge was last used at a job site in New Brighton, Beaver County on Dec. 16.

The company is licensed to use the gauge, which doesn’t pose a public health threat unless it’s broken open, tampered with or otherwise damaged.

The company is offering a $500 reward for information leading to its return.

The gauge is a Troxler Model 3411B and about the size of shoebox. It has a metal handle and electronic keypad extending from the top of the yellow gauge box.
