An elderly woman who was pulled from a house fire early Wednesday has died.
Emergency crews were dispatched to the 1200 block of Ravine Street around 1 a.m. A police sergeant driving along Ravine spotted heavy smoke coming from the house and called 911, according to Pittsburgh Post-Gazette news partner KDKA-TV.
The woman, identified as 87-year-old Helen Leskanic, was found in a back bedroom and died shortly after, according to fire officials and the Allegheny County medical examiner’s office.
One firefighter was hospitalized for heat exhaustion.
Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control in about an hour but remained on the scene until 5:30 a.m.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
