Authorities are trying to determine where a bullet came from that wounded a woman inside Kennywood Park Saturday night, but they believe it was fired outside the West Mifflin park.
A news release from Allegheny County police indicated that at 10:10 p.m. a woman was struck by gunfire in the upper chest near her shoulder as she and thousands of others were leaving the park’s popular fireworks show. The 26-year-old woman was taken to a local hospital where she was listed in stable condition. Her identity was not released.
Police said numerous witnesses were interviewed and surveillance footage was viewed and that the conclusion was reached "there are no indications there was a gunshot within the park itself. None of the witnesses reported hearing or seeing a gunshot and, as of this time, there is no video showing any gunfire."
Police said the investigation is leading authorities to believe the shot was fired from outside the park, wounding the woman. "One possibility being investigated is that the shot was fired from a nearby area as part of a Fourth of July celebration," the news release reads.
Police said there are no indications the victim or anyone with her had been targeted.
