Body found near Lawrence County elementary school identified

A body found Friday morning near Mohawk Elementary School in Lawrence County has been identified and his death ruled a homicide.

Police say that Frederick Deangelo Swilling, 24, of New Castle, died of a gunshot wound. They are asking the public for help in gathering information about the activities of Mr. Swilling in the 12 hours before his body was found in Bessemer at 8:45 a.m. Friday.

The body was discovered by a parent bringing a student to the elementary school, which was put on lockdown for more than two hours.
