Man charged with attack in Duquesne University dorm room

A McKees Rocks man was arraigned this morning on charges that he raped a woman inside his dorm room on the Duquesne University campus.

Souleymane Tigana, 23, faces charges of rape, sex assault and indecent assault.

A woman told Pittsburgh police last month that she met Mr. Tigana while she was celebrating her birthday on the South Side in September and the two exchanged numbers. They met for coffee the next night and he invited her back to his room in the Towers dormitory, according to a criminal complaint.

The woman told a sex assault detective that she began kissing Mr. Tigana and the two  agreed to remove some clothing but she told him multiple times that she did not wish to have sex with him. She told police that she agreed to one sex act but he forced another on her, according to the complaint.

Mr. Tigana at some point left the country and traveled to Mali, Pittsburgh police said. On Wednesday, Pittsburgh police learned from university police that Mr. Tigana had returned to campus. They obtained a warrant Saturday and constables arrested him on campus today, Pittsburgh police spokeswoman Diane Richard said.

Mr. Tigana, who was released on non-monetary bond, did not respond to a request for comment nor did his attorney.

University spokeswoman Karen Ferrick-Roman said in an email that the school notified students after it learned of the allegations that there had been a report of a sex assault on campus and that Pittsburgh police were investigating.
