Whoever lived in the Kilbuck Township house where one unidentified person was killed early this morning appeared to be in the process of moving out of the home, officials said.
"A small U-Haul was backed smack up against the door and it was half loaded and other belongings were outside," said Ohio Township Police Chief Norbert Micklos. "The firemen moved the truck."
The fire was reported at 3:04 a.m. in the 200 block of Camp Horne Road at Gibson Street on the Emsworth line, according to Allegheny County emergency officials.
Numerous firefighters from four area departments and other emergency personnel responded.
The victim’s identity has not been released. It was not immediately clear if anyone else was in the house and if there were other injuries.
Firefighters had to stretch fire hoses across a creek bed because they could not get fire trucks across a small bridge spanning it, Chief Micklos said. Response time wasn't impacted, he said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the county fire marshal. As is the case in fire deaths, county homicide detectives are also involved in the probe, Chief Micklos said.
