A 76-year-old Indiana County man died early Saturday morning from inhaling smoke in a house fire, officials said.
John Eugene Wetzel, of Marion Center, was pronounced dead at 1 a.m., according to the Indiana County coroner.
The death occurred amid a house fire at Mr. Wetzel’s residence in the 1000 block of Skyline Drive. Firefighters arrived at the house and found a fully-involved residential fire, the coroner’s report said.
Shortly before the fire was extinguished, a firefighter found Mr. Wetzel’s body, the coroner said. The flames were put out by firefighters from multiple companies, including the Indiana Fire Association and volunteers from Marion Center, Plumville, Clymer and Creekside fire departments.
The State Police Fire Marshall is investigating the cause of the fire.
