Tickets available next month for opening of Flight 93 memorial visitors complex

Starting next month, the new Flight 93 National Memorial's visitors center complex will make tickets available for specific dates and times in anticipation of the large crowds expected to attend its Sept. 10 opening in Somerset County.

Tickets are free and can be purchased two ways:

• Visitors can also get tickets at the visitor center Sept. 10 on a first-come, first-served basis. There is also a limit of six tickets per individual at the site

Lake Fong/Post-Gazette Contractors continue work at the site of the Flight 93 National Memorial visitor center in Somerset County Thursday. A black granite walkway leads visitors past 34-foot-tall walls and marks the flight path of the hijacked plane before it crashed.

The 6,809-square-foot center will open at 2 p.m. Sept. 10 in Stonycreek Township with a permanent exhibit dedicated to the 40 passengers and crew members of United Airlines Flight 93 who died on 9/11.

The display includes photographs, artifacts, tactile models and audio and video pieces.

The complex is scheduled to be completed in 2017. Besides the visitor center, the property includes a 4,686-square-foot learning center for class trips and guest speakers.
