Elliott, Mount Washington see road improvements after landslides

Recent work has wrapped up on two city neighborhood streets — in Elliott and Mount Washington — after landslides disrupted both areas, Mayor Bill Peduto’s office said Thursday.

Remediation followed geotechnical assessments at Advent Street in Elliott, which closed in March. The street reopened last month. Work there included a new guardrail, improved drainage and a rebuilt road, according to the city.

In Mount Washington, a major landslide in February forced part of William Street to close. The movement was “so great that the segment of roadway will not be restored in the foreseeable future,” the city said in a statement. The section runs from near Cola Street to about 500 feet above Arlington Avenue.

Still, the city has improved remaining segments of William Street, including with catch basins. On an upper section, the city said it’s working with residents on road widening and drainage. The Department of Mobility and Infrastructure has invested more than $700,000 to address the slope failure in that area, according to the city.
