City bike officer struck by car door

A Pittsburgh police bicycle officer was injured Tuesday in Shadyside when he crashed into the opened door of a parked vehicle.   

The incident occurred about 2:30 p.m. in the 5200 block of Centre Avenue near UPMC Shadyside.

A police spokeswoman said the officer was pedaling when he was struck by the driver’s door of a legally parked vehicle.

The officer was taken to UPMC Mercy where he was treated for minor injuries.

No charges have been filed against the driver, police said.
