Man who died in Uptown fire identified

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner this morning identified the victim of a fatal fire in Uptown Wednesday afternoon as Jesse Truxell, Jr., 77.  

Mr. Truxell died in a fire that broke out around 3:30 p.m. in a row house on Seneca Street between Forbes and Fifth avenues. 

Firefighters had removed the victim from the house, and he was taken to UPMC Mercy in critical condition, city public safety officials said.

Mr. Truxell was pronounced dead at the hospital at 4:13 p.m. The medical examiner’s office said the cause and manner of death haven’t been determined yet.

Two others escaped the residence unharmed, according to city assistant fire Chief Thomas Cook.

The fire was under control by 4:15 p.m. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
