Pittsburgh's Molly Rush is honored on anniversary of her nuclear warfare protest

Pittsburgh named Sept. 9 Molly Rush Day, but this has been Molly Rush Week in the city.

On Friday, the anniversary of the day the Dormont mother of six and peace activist struck a blow against nuclear warfare, the Chatham University Women’s Institute hosted a staged reading of “Molly’s Hammer,” a play by award-winning writer Tammy Ryan and based on Liane Ellison Norman’s book, “Hammer of Justice.”

All three women attended a pre-reading reception at Chatham's Eddy Theater in Squirrel Hill. The event benefitted the Thomas Merton Center in Garfield.

The center was co-founded by Ms. Rush and Larry Kessler as a grassroots center of peace and justice in 1972.
