61-year-old man dies in Oakland fire

A man died in a fire this morning in west Oakland.

The Allegheny County medical examiner’s office said Anthony Ford, 61, was killed in a blaze that emergency authorities said started at about 7 a.m. in the 3000 block of Terrace Street.

Two people were rescued from the home. Mr. Ford was pronounced dead at 7:51 a.m. at UPMC Mercy. A second man was taken to UPMC Presbyterian with smoke inhalation.

According the medical examiner’s office, Mr. Ford died from smoke and soot inhalation, hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, and ruled the death an accident.

The fire remains under investigation..
