A McKees Rocks man turned himself into Pittsburgh police on Monday in connection with a Friday night stabbing on the Smithfield Street Bridge, the city’s public safety department said today.
James Malone, 22, was arraigned early this morning on charges that include aggravated assault, simple assault and criminal mischief. He is in the Allegheny County Jail in lieu of $3,000 bail, court records show.
The stabbing happened Friday at 9:40 p.m. when a man and a woman in their early 20s were attacked by a man on a skateboard who was blocking the sidewalk as they walked along the bridge, a news release from the city said.
When the victims asked the man to move, he yelled at them and threw the male victim’s bicycle into the river. He then stabbed the male victim in the forearm and chased the female victim with the knife.
The female victim was uninjured and the male victim was taken to UPMC Mercy in good condition.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 8 at 12:30 p.m. before Common Pleas Judge Jeffrey A. Manning.
