PSO's Voyage at Sea gala held at Heinz Hall

#SweptAway: There was no better way to start the new season of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra than a Mediterranean-inspired gala complete with the musical stylings of world-renowned soprano Renee Fleming. The excitement was palpable as guests poured into the outdoor garden outside of Heinz Hall on Saturday night. It was inspiring to see the number of young people who flocked to be a part of this very special evening. “It’s time for us to step up,” said soiree co-chair Casey Pratkanis, who was stunning in a Marchesa gown, with husband and co-chair Jon. “Millennials are the largest demographic and if we want to have one of the best symphonies in the world, we have to invest ourselves in that cause,” she said. Soiree auction co-chairs Alex and Harris Heit echoed that sentiment. “The symphony is our number one priority. It is world class and was one of the reasons we want to be in Pittsburgh,” said Alex Heit. Speaking of auction items, the bidder who won the private dinner at Jerry Morosco’s home catered by star chef Jamilka Borges should know I’m available on whatever night that is.

#LegacyMatters: Chairing this year’s gala were Andre and Maria Heinz. “The symphony is a critical part of this city’s cultural fabric and of our community. Because of its international reputation it has put this region on the global map and we will work to keep it that way,” said Mr. Heinz.

#SEEN: Honorary event chairs Angela and Mike DeVanney as well as Ginny and Dick Simmons; Vivian and Bill Benter, Peggy and Steve McKnight, Roseanne and Dr. Mark Wholey, Aradhna and Grant Oliphant, Debra Caplan and Dr. David Levenson, Mary and Mark Flaherty, Sally Wiggin, Patrick Gallagher, Neil Parham, Doug Nolder and Philip Ferland, Tim McVay and David Bush, Maxwell Stanfield, Ling Hong and Richard Ernsberger, Judy Linaburg, Jean Horne, David Onufer and Paul Purdy, Danielle Katz and James Snyder, Bonnie Mangold, Dr. Kathryn Vreeland and Leif Johnson Jr.
