Where and When: David L. Lawrence Convention Center, Thursday night.
#VroomVroom: The Pittsburgh International Auto Show was off to a roaring start as more than 900 car enthusiasts braved the frigid weather to see the newest and hottest cars on the market. The event co-chairs, Joey and Christy Porter, made quite an entrance as they cruised up to the ribbon-cutting ceremony in a shiny red Ferrari 458.
This year, the event supported the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix Charities, including the Autism Society of Pittsburgh and Allegheny Valley School. These organizations provide residential care, treatment, support and community to those with autism and developmental and intellectual disabilities. “My nephew, who has Down syndrome, uses these services. His great thrill every day is going to work and feeling like a valuable member of society. These organizations make it possible,” said Dan Taylor, who attended with wife, Robin. It was a record-breaking party, with the largest check ever presented at the event, raising $360,000. Guests also enjoyed eating a strolling supper, trying their hand in the Mustang driving simulator and watching aerialist performers before dancing to the Redline Band.
Mustang Memories: “My favorite car growing up was definitely the Ford Mustang,” recalled Joseph Thurby, 2015 Neighborhood Ford Store Chairman. This sentiment was echoed by others such as Larry Wind, John Morris and Eric Peterson, who added, “But really my favorite car was any that I was allowed to drive!” Susie Shipley said, “The ’57 Chevy convertible brings me back to some great times!” Added Latasha Batch, “My go-to fantasy cars growing up were Lamborghinis and Corvettes … very ‘Smokey and the Bandit’!”
