Cobblehaus Brewing Co. is not yet open in its storefront in downtown Coraopolis.
But it will open its doors from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday to pour samples and sell some swag.
The complimentary tasting is part of the first daylong Christmas in Coraopolis celebration, which will include a cookie walk, kids activities, live music and a visit from Santa.
Cobblehaus, according to owner and brewer Scott Mills, will highlight German and Belgian styles. Its tagline is “Olde World Styles ... New World Twists.”
The business is winding up a crowdfunding campaign on indiegogo.com to raise $12,000 to finish the taproom.
Mr. Mills, who’s working on the space while waiting for his federal license, says he expects to open in mid-January.
Saturday, he’ll be pouring three beers that look to be staples there: Olde Town Alt (a Dusseldorf alt), Sammy B (a German hefeweizen) and Black Bear (an American black IPA).
He’ll also be selling prepaid cards for growlers and pints of beer as well as glassware and other merchandise.
Cobblehaus Brewing Co. is at 1021 Fifth Ave. For more, visit www.cobblehaus.com. For more information on Christmas in Coraopolis, visit www.emmajeansattic.com/christmas-in-coraopolis.
Washington brewery on the way
Signs went up Tuesday for another brewery that’s on the way -— this one in Washington, Pa. The Washington Brewing Co. is going into a former Studebaker dealership next door to Washington Winery/A&M Wine and Beer Supplies at the corner of South Main and Maiden streets. They’re all owned by John and Angela Burgess, who are sharing brewery ownership with John and Michele DeFede, who own the Upper Crust Italian Bistro across Main Street. Another co-owner is Patrick Buckley, a well-known local homebrewer who has brewed at Helltown Brewing Co.; he’ll be the master brewer, running a 15-barrel brewhouse. When they open depends on when that brewing equipment arrives and other factors, but it could be sometime this coming summer.
