It may not be Anthony Bourdain’s “Parts Unknown,” but it is another Pittsburgh TV close-up, with this week marking the second round of filming for the Travel Channel’s “Food Paradise.”
Following a visit earlier this fall, the network is scheduled to be back, filming at Bigham Tavern at 321 Bigham St. on Mount Washington on Wednesday when the bar and kitchen will open later — 3 p.m. instead of 11 a.m. The Travel Channel visited Pittsburgh back in October, with segments filmed at Pork & Beans, Downtown, and Church Brew Works in Lawrenceville.
Film crews will remain on site during evening hours, with filming starting between 4 and 5 p.m., which will include interviews with customers. That the filming correlates with the Wednesday wing special — 50 cents a wing from open to close — is likely not a coincidence at a place known for wings; the menu lists 30 sauces, from classic Buffalo-style (listed as BT original) to General Tso or chipotle flavored.
The question remains as to how the show will portray the ’burgh, and whether it’s for an upcoming Pennsylvania-centric “Food Paradise”: The network hit up Philadelphia’s Joe’s Pizza Brick Oven for “Food Paradise” on Dec. 7.
The episode will run sometime next year. “They asked us to take down our Christmas decorations,” says a manager at Bigham Tavern. Another source was told it would air some time in or near February. The show has been airing at 8 p.m. Sundays.
