Second lawsuit filed against Dick's Sporting Goods over new gun policy

An 18-year-old Michigan man has become the second person to sue Pittsburgh-based Dick’s Sporting Goods over the retail chain’s new prohibition against selling firearms to people under age 21.

In a lawsuit filed in Oakland County Circuit Court March 6, Tristin Fulton, of Battle Creek, claims that Dick’s policy violates Michigan law, which allows anyone 18 years of age or older to buy a firearm unless otherwise legally incapacitated. Mr. Fulton tried to buy a shotgun at a Dick’s store in Troy, Mich., but was turned down because of his age, according to the lawsuit.

Mr. Fulton is seeking a judgement in excess of $25,000 plus reimbursement of legal fees and costs, according to the lawsuit.

Mr. Fulton is the second person to sue Dick’s over its nationwide policy, which was enacted following the mass shooting that killed 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Feb. 14 in Parkland, Fla.
