StarKist among tuna companies named in collusion lawsuit
The three major U.S. tuna producers have colluded to keep prices up over the past four years, according to a class-action lawsuit filed in a federal court in California. New York-based Olean Wholesale Grocery Cooperative alleges StarKist, based on Pittsburgh’s North Shore, along with Bumble Bee Foods and Tri-Union Seafoods, which sells Chicken of the Sea tuna, should have been expected to drop prices to gain market share after raw tuna prices fell. A StarKist representative declined comment. Last month, Tri-Union parent company Thai Union Frozen Products said it had been subpoenaed by the U.S. Department of Justice, which is conducting an antitrust investigation of the packaged seafood industry.
Ansys profits down slightly, but revenues are up
Southpointe-based engineering simulation technology company Ansys reported profits of $62.3 million, or 68 cents per share, down slightly from $63 million, or 67 cents per share the same period last year. Company revenues of $253.5 million were up from $232.4 million at the end of last year’s second quarter.
Women and Girls Foundation gets interim chief executive
Tara Simmons, vice president of the Women and Girls Foundation, will serve as interim chief executive for about 90 days while the current chief executive, Heather Arnet, pursues a run as the Democratic candidate in a special election to fill the Pennsylvania Senate seat in the 37th district. Ms. Arnet was officially named the party’s candidate Aug. 1 and the election is scheduled for Nov. 3. During her campaign, Ms. Arnet will be chief strategy officer for the foundation.
Mazda recalls 206,000 SUVs to fix front suspension
Mazda is recalling its biggest SUV to fix suspension parts that can rust and come loose, causing a loss of steering control. The recall covers 206,000 CX-9 SUVs from the 2007 through 2014 model years. Owners will be notified by letter starting in September.
