Las Palmas Hispanic grocery and taco stand in Oakland, which has had numerous run-ins with the Allegheny County Health Department in recent years, was hit with a consumer alert Tuesday after a health inspector turned up more than a dozen serious food safety violations.
Some of the problems included holding food at unsafe temperatures, poor sanitization, lack of a food safety manager, and an employee handling raw meat and and cooked tacos with the same pair of gloves, according to the inspection report.
The Atwood Street business had reopened in mid-December after being shut down in November by the health department for numerous health code violations, including the presence of “rats, roaches, flies and fruit flies,” the inspection report said.
The owner could not immediately be reached for comment.
Las Palmas also drew a consumer alert in September and two in 2015.
Inspection reports for food facilities in the county are available online at www.achd.net.
