David Whalen, a New Kensington native and long-time actor and educator in Pittsburgh, will play “Fox & Friends” co-host Steve Doocy in the upcoming Showtime series “The Loudest Voice in the Room,” which stars Naomi Watts as Gretchen Carlson and Russell Crowe as Roger Ailes,
The series, scheduled for a 2019 release, is “A look at the rise and fall of former Chairman and CEO of Fox News, Roger Ailes,” reports IMDB.com. Longtime Fox News chief Ailes died in May 2017 at the age of 77, a year after he was fired for sexual harassment. Mr. Ailes was a key figure in the 1988 presidential campaign of George H.W. Bush and later built Fox News into the No. 1-ranked cable news channel.
Mr. Whalen posted the news on Facebook Saturday, saying he was “honored” to be joining the starry cast that includes Seth MacFarlane as former Fox News public relations head and Ailes ally Brian Lewis, Sienna Miller as Ailes’ wife, Elizabeth, and Simon McBurney as media mogul Rupert Murdoch. The first episode of the series, based on Gabriel Sherman's book of the same name, was co-written with Tom McCarthy (Oscar-winning “Spotlight”), who is a co-executive producer of the series, according to imdb.com.
Besides his many stage roles from Pittsburgh to regional theaters nationwide, Mr. Whalen has appeared in filmed-in-Pittsburgh movies such as “The Fault in Our Stars” and ”American Pastoral.”
