Billy Porter was the guest on “Live With Kelly and Ryan” this morning, talking about his role in the new FX series “Pose” and his Pittsburgh roots.

The Tony- and Grammy-winning star of “Kinky Boots” was 15 when he got his first singing job — six shows a day at Kennywood Park. He wanted a pair of Jordache jeans, and his mother told him, “You’ve got champagne taste on a beer budget, you are going to have to find a job!”

Ryan Murphy’s “Pose,” about New York’s drag ball scene, debuts Sunday at 9 p.m.
