Arcade Comedy is getting a colorful boost for its move across Liberty Avenue, from 811 to 943, in the Downtown Cultural District.
PPG has partnered with The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust through the company’s Colorful Communities program. Trust president and CEO Kevin McMahon joined PPG volunteers as they painted the venue Wednesday, and PPG will provide financial and product contributions “to bring color and vitality to the Cultural Trust renovation project.”
In November, the Trust began renovating the vacant 943 Liberty into a three-floor, two-theater performance venue. The space is to be the new home for Arcade Comedy, a nonprofit comedy theater led by creative directors Jethro Nolen, Abby Fudor, Mike Rubino and Kristy Nolen. Arcade Comedy features at least six shows every weekend, comedy classes, family shows and special events. The company has announced “The Last 811 Stand Up Show,” featuring regional comics, for Aug. 25 at 10 p.m.
The Colorful Communities program is PPG’s signature initiative for community engagement efforts. A press release noted that it has donated more than $10 million over 10 years to community organizations across 25 countries, “with the aim to enhance, protect and beautify neighborhoods where PPG operates around the world.”
“These types of public-private partnerships enable the continued evolution of the Cultural District and support of our local arts groups,” Mr. McMahon said. “Arcade Comedy will now be able to welcome more patrons, and in a colorful and energetic environment that matches their enthusiasm.”
