The live musical version of “Dirty Dancing — The Classic Story on Stage” that stopped in Pittsburgh in April 2015 is back for a return engagement, this time at Heinz Hall through Sunday.
This time around, the show’s Johnny Castle is Christopher Tierney, perhaps best known as the dancer who was injured during previews of Broadway’s “Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark.” Playing Frances “Baby” Houseman is Rachel Boone, one of the original dirty dancers who opened the tour in 2014.
Don’t expect a scene-for-scene or musical matchup with the popular Patrick Swayze-Jennifer Grey original 1987 film or the Colt Prattes-Abigail Breslin TV movie that premiered Wednesday on ABC.
The live version has 20 added scenes and features an eight-piece band performing 36 numbers, including “I Had the Time of My Life,” as the restless visitors and employees of Kellerman’s Resort dance their way through the summer of 1963.
“Dirty Dancing” is an extra on the 2016-17 PNC Broadway in Pittsburgh series, presented by the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, Pittsburgh Symphony and PNC Broadway Across America. Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. Thursday, 8 p.m. Friday, 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday and 1 and 6:30 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $31-$77 at 412 392-4900 or www.trustarts.org.
