The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra has appointed Earl Lee as the new associate conductor, the symphony announced Monday. His tenure begins in September.
He replaces outgoing associate conductor Francesco Lecce-Chong.
The Canadian conductor studied cello performance before studying conducting at the Manhattan School of Music. He is currently the RBC resident conductor of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and the artistic director & conductor of the Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra.
“The PSO is such a great organization for me to work with and absorb their style of music-making,” said Mr. Lee, who first saw Mr. Honeck conduct during the latter’s New York Philharmonic debut several years ago.
Mr. Lee will also assume the post of music director of the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony Orchestra. Both positions typically last two years.
