The 16th annual RADical Days -— a thank-you to the public for supporting arts and culture organizations, regional parks, libraries, sports and civic facilities through the Regional Asset District tax -— continues this weekend with free admissions and/or events at Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium, The Mattress Factory more.
It will run through Oct. 15 with free admissions to favorite Pittsburgh places, along with special events including workshops, exhibitions, concerts and dance performances.
Here is the schedule:
THURSDAY
Audubon Society of Western PA, 614 Dorseyville Rd., Fox Chapel: Owl Prowl. Free. 7 p.m. (Reservations required.)
FRIDAY
Pittsburgh Glass Center, 5472 Penn Ave., Friendship: Free day of heat defying acts of art in the flameworking and glassblowing studios, plus the opening of “Embodiment,” a glass-wearables exhibition co-sponsored by 3 Rivers Glass Beadmakers. 10 a.m.-9 p.m.
Silver Eye Center for Photography, 4808 Penn Ave., Bloomfield. See “The Notion of Family, a solo exhibition by LaToya Ruby Frazier exploring the legacy of racism, the working class, and economic decline in America’s small towns. Free. 6-10 p.m.
SATURDAY
The Frick Pittsburgh, 7227 Reynolds St., Point Breeze. Explore Clayton, the restored Frick family mansion, view fine and decorative art at The Frick Art Museum, and experience “Elise Adibi: Respiration Paintings,” a multisensory installation in the Greenhouse. Free. 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
Allegheny County Parks, South Park Fairgrounds, Brownsville Road. South Park Hay Day and Public Safety & Health Day features activities for the whole family, including hay rides, hay maze, arts and crafts, petting zoo, puppet shows and games. Free. Noon-4 p.m.
SUNDAY
Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium, 7340 Butler St., Highland Park. Free day at the zoo will feature a special performance by River City Brass Band at the Water's Edge exhibit at 11 a.m. Delays are expected in areas surrounding the Zoo. Free. 9 a.m.-5 p.m. (gates close at 4 p.m.)
Mattress Factory, 500 Sampsonia Way, North Side. A contemporary art museum and experimental lab features site-specific installations created by artists in residence from around the world. The Mattress Factory will offer a free drop-in tour at 2 p.m. Meet a museum educator at the admissions desk for an introduction to installation art and a guided gallery experience. Free. 1-5 p.m.
South Park Theatre, Corner of Brownsville Road and Corrigan Drive, South Park. Vintage Hitchcock – A Live Radio Play, performed in the style of a 1940s radio broadcast. Free. 2 p.m.
