Jerry's Records will celebrate Record Store Day as it always does on Saturday by giving away some of the store.
The Squirrel Hill landmark, ranked by Rolling Stone, Paste and other publications among the top 20 record stores in the country, will give out 20,000 free albums, packed in closed boxes of 100 (it's like a box of chocolates — you just have to bite in and see what happens).
“It will be about two or three times what I usually give out,” says owner Jerry Weber. “I want to clear out the Bargain Basement a little.”
Weber says he has 100,000 albums in the Bargain Basement, which opened in 2013 and is filled with $1 and $2 titles. He plans to close that part of the store by the end of the year.
Jerry's, specializing in used records, does not carry the new Record Store Day exclusives. Those can be found at The Attic (Millvale), Sound Cat (Bloomfield), Eide's Entertainment (Downtown) and Stedeford's (North Side), among other stores.
Hours at Jerry's are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (2136 Murray Ave., second floor). Call 412-421-4533 or go to www.jerrysrecords.com.
