Happy Jeff Goldblum Day, Pittsburgh.
The day named for the Hollywood star from West Homestead became official in 2004, when Pittsburgh City Council honored the star of “Jurassic Park,” “Independence Day,” “The Big Chill” ... (the list goes on and on, and includes Broadway, too) with a day that recognizes his fame while always maintaining his yinzer pride.
That year was significant because Mr. Goldblum happened to be in town and onstage, in Pittsburgh CLO’s “The Music Man,” while also filming his homecoming for his mockumentary, titled “Pittsburgh.” His costar onstage and in the film, Ed Begley Jr., was among the speakers last month when Mr. Goldblum earned a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
To celebrate this year, the Garfield tattoo parlor Artisan Pittsburgh announced that it would celebrate July 13, 2018, because, “We at Artisan truly believe this pop icon deserves more than one day of one year to celebrate his many accomplishments and truly invaluable presence in pop culture.”
From noon to 7 p.m., the event at Artisan, 5001 Penn Ave., promises to expect: Jeff Goldblum Day T-shirts, themed tattoo flash specials, trivia with themed prizes and a real-time painting of the actor by the tattoo artist Shervin.
The Facebook events page said about 1,500 people are expected. Cosplayers are welcome, and there are so many to choose from — from the blue alien in “Earth Girls Are Easy” to the gooey fly in “The Fly” to the various stages of Ian Malcolm, onscreen again this summer in “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.”
Some of you will be capping off the day Jeff Goldblum Day with another host, Row House Cinema in Lawrenceville. The theater is sold out for a “Secret Jeff Goldblum Film” at 10 tonight.
