The Steelers have spent a good portion of their offseason scouting quarterbacks and running backs, and their final few top-30 visits are keeping with that theme.
Syracuse quarterback Kyle McCord, Texas running back Jaydon Blue and Minnesota defensive back Justin Walley are on predraft visits at UPMC Rooney Sports Complex on Monday. We now know 27 of the 30 visits to date, with the final three expected to come later this week.
McCord is the fourth quarterback to take a predraft visit, joining Louisville’s Tyler Shough, Ole Miss’ Jaxson Dart and Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders. Steelers general manager Omar Khan and coach Mike Tomlin also went to the pro days at Alabama, Ohio State, Texas and Notre Dame to scout Jalen Milroe, Will Howard, Quinn Ewers and Riley Leonard, respectively.
McCord (6-foot-3, 218 pounds) was named second-team All-ACC in his only season with the Orange after transferring from Ohio State. He threw for 4,779 yards and a school-record 34 touchdowns. He was at Ohio State from 2021-23 and started 12 games for the Buckeyes in 2023, throwing for 3,170 yards and 24 touchdowns.
Projected as a mid-round pick, McCord is a pocket passer with limited mobility, but he does have the benefit of playing in pro-style offenses in college.
Blue (5-foot-9, 196 pounds) is the seventh running back to visit the Steelers this spring. He played alongside some other talented players in the Longhorns backfield, but he was productive in limited snaps. He started just five games in his college career, all last season as a junior, and he led the Longhorns with 14 touchdowns last season (eight rushing and six receiving).
Blue was one of the fastest running backs at the NFL combine last month, with a 4.38-second time in the 40-yard dash. He is projected as a mid-round pick, as well.
Walley, who is projected as a late-round pick, is the third cornerback to come in for a visit. He is one of the most experienced defensive backs in the draft, with 36 college starts on his resume.
Named second-team All-Big Ten last season as a senior, Walley (5-foot-10, 190 pounds) had two interceptions, including one that was returned for a touchdown. He had six career interceptions.
