The Steelers are continuing their quarterback research by bringing in Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders, considered the No. 2 quarterback in the draft, for a top-30 visit on Thursday, sources have told the Post-Gazette.
It is somewhat of a surprising move because the Steelers, who have the 21st overall selection, don’t typically bring in players who are considered out of their reach in the draft for a top-30 visit.
Nonetheless, it shows they are serious about the possibility of drafting a quarterback, possibly even in the first round. The likelihood could increase if they don’t sign Aaron Rodgers.
Sanders, the son of NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, could be among the top three picks in the draft. Cam Ward is expected to be the top quarterback selected.
Coach Mike Tomlin and general manager Omar Khan have used their pro-day trips to meet with quarterbacks Jalen Milroe, Will Howard, Riley Leonard and Quinn Ewers. Last week, they brought in Ole Miss’ Jaxson Dart for a visit because Tomlin and Khan did not attend his pro day.
However, none of those quarterbacks are expected to be drafted as high as Sanders or even in the first round.
