Tre Norwood
Position: CB/FS
College: Oklahoma
Previous experience: Rookie
Scouting report: Norwood was a versatile player at Oklahoma, seeing time at a variety of spots in the secondary. He doesn’t have the greatest speed, so he probably won’t be lining up on the edge too much as a pro. But many have suggested he may eventually grow into the slot corner role Mike Hilton filled for the Steelers before signing with Cincinnati this offseason.
Some key stat: Norwood intercepted five passes a season ago with the Sooners, and fresh off knee surgery to boot. That’s proven playmaking ability you don’t often see going in the seventh round.
Fun fact: Norwood missed the 2019 season after tearing his ACL, but he told Steelers.com that the injury was a bonding moment with his father, who suffered the same injury in college. He knew what it was like. He was that ear to listen. We have a close relationship,” he said. “Being able to talk to him about how I feel, you have your days that are better than others, days that are worse than others. Having him to lean on meant so much.”
Likely role: The Steelers’ depth chart isn’t exactly riddled with household names beyond its starting quartet of defensive backs, so it’s possible Norwood could push for time in sub packages this season. Otherwise, he’ll probably be working to find his niche as a reserve.
