The Steelers concluded the first week of top-30 visits by playing host to two of the top cornerback prospects in this year’s draft.
Justin Layne of Michigan State and Rock Ya-Sin of Temple are at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex on Friday.
Ya-Sin, who played his first three seasons at Presbyterian University before transferring to Temple for his senior year, is the No. 29 player on Daniel Jeremiah’s top 50 prospects list. Jeremiah, who works for NFL Network, has Ya-Sin has his second-rated corner behind only Byron Murphy of Washington (No. 26).
Ya-Sin (6-0, 192) was named first-team all-AAC after his first and only season with the Owls. He intercepted two passes and had 12 pass breakups as a senior after posting five interceptions during his final season at Presbyterian.
Ya-Sin ran a 4.51 in the 40-yard dash at the NFL combine last month.
Layne (6-2, 192) was a two-year starter after converting from receiver midway through his freshman season. He ran 4.50 at the combine and had two career interceptions in college.
The Steelers played host to 20 prospects during the first week of visits. Seventeen of them count against their limit of 30. Dravon Askew-Henry and David Long of West Virginia and Miles Sanders of Penn State do not count against the limit because they played at local high schools or colleges.
