There will likely be many John Stallworth replica jerseys in the stands when the Steelers face the New England Patriots Sunday at Heinz Field. If you want the real thing, though, it’s going to cost you.
The Steelers are again partnering with Lelands to auction off dozens of game-worn jerseys now through Sunday, and the crown jewel of the collection is a uniform that Stallworth — a Pro Football Hall of Famer and member of the Steelers’ 1970s Super Bowl dynasty — wore in 1983. The opening bid was $5,000, and as of this writing, bidding is up over $7,000.
The Steelers first auctioned off game-worn jerseys through Lelands in the spring, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the Chuck Noll Foundation for Brain Injury Research. The collection of 17 items sold for a combined $327,000.
Now there are 24 jerseys up for auction through the “Steel Curtain Auction Part II.” And Lelands is excited about the items that are available.
“The John Stallworth jersey is the most exciting, and will probably be the top seller,” Mike Heffner, president of Lelands, said in an email. “I would encourage fans to look at all of the jerseys as there are many fan favorites and some that are quite affordable.”
Proceeds will again benefit the Chuck Noll foundation. And while some of the jerseys are set to go for sky-high prices, the bidding for many is at less than $1,000 as of this writing. Among the items up for bid:
- Jim Bradshaw from 1964
