The Steelers signed first-year linebacker Ron Stanley to the active roster yesterday.
Stanley (6 feet, 244 pounds) was signed earlier this week to the team's practice squad after being released after training camp this season. Last year, he was in training camp with the Steelers after he was signed as an undrafted rookie free agent from Michigan State, but was released before the opening of the regular season. Stanley was re-signed to the Steelers' practice squad for the playoffs.
He will provide insurance for a linebacking corps that has injury problems.
To make room for Stanley, the Steelers released veteran quarterback Brian St. Pierre. He has spent time on the team's active roster and the practice squad. St. Pierre was originally drafted by the Steelers in the fifth round (163rd overall) of the 2003 draft.
