A priority since the Pirates and Penguins became joint owners of SportsNet Pittsburgh in mid-December 2023, the network on Monday will announce plans to launch its own digital subscription service, the Post-Gazette has learned.
The standalone plan, titled SNP 360, will allow fans paying an introductory rate of $17.99 per month to access SportsNet Pittsburgh’s live programming and growing on-demand library.
There was already a SNP 360 feature offered through the network’s app; however, the difference here is that you now do not need a cable subscription to access content — only a direct deal with SNP.
The plan will become available to fans in Pittsburgh and surrounding markets on Monday, including access to the SportsNet Pittsburgh and SportsNet Pittsburgh+ channels, which can be streamed directly on desktop, mobile or connected TV devices.
Fans who have previously purchased SportsNet Pittsburgh through a participating TV provider will be able to authenticate into the SNP 360 app to access the same programming, including live Pirates and Penguins games.
The streaming service will also include a DVR feature via the cloud.
“We’re thrilled to expand our availability for Pittsburgh sports fans,” said SportsNet Pittsburgh president/CEO Sean McGrail in a statement. “Today’s fan needs to be able to access their favorite teams seamlessly, and we’re excited to now offer the option to watch SportsNet Pittsburgh via direct subscription.
“Our existing cable and satellite subscribers also continue to be able to stream with their TV provider credentials for no extra cost.”
