The Pirates traded outfielder Andrew McCutchen to the San Francisco Giants on Monday. Here’s a look back at some of his best moments with his now-former team.
June 4, 2009 — McCutchen debuts with the Pirates and lives up to the hype immediately, scoring three runs, driving in another and stealing a base in an 11-6 win against the New York Mets at PNC Park.
Aug. 9, 2009 — Home town fans get a true glimpse at McCutchen’s power for the first time when he hits three home runs against the Washington Nationals to power an 11-6 victory at PNC Park.
Aug. 25, 2009 — Philadelphia closer Brad Lidge serves up the first walk-off homer of McCutchen’s career as the rookie takes him deep for a two-run shot in the ninth inning of a 6-4 Pirates victory against their in-state rival.
Sept. 23, 2013 — The Pirates clinch their first playoff berth in 21 years with a 2-1 win against the Cubs at Wrigley Field. McCutchen goes 1-for-3 in the victory.
Oct. 6, 2013 — McCutchen gets two hits, including a double, and scores two runs as the Pirates earn a 5-3 win in Game 3 of the NLDS against the St. Louis Cardinals. The Pirates go on to lose the series, but it’s McCutchen’s best postseason performance as a Pirate.
Nov. 14, 2013 — A landslide vote makes McCutchen the National League’s MVP. He beats out Arizona first baseman Paul Goldschmidt and St. Louis catcher Yadier Molina.
Sept. 23, 2014 — The Pirates clinch their second consecutive postseason berth by beating the Braves in Atlanta, 3-2. McCutchen records two hits.
May 30, 2015 — A home run in a 5-2 win against the Padres in San Diego turns out to be a secondary story when McCutchen gives his batting gloves to two young fans in the outfield at Petco Park.
July 11, 2015 — McCutchen hits a dramatic walk-off homer in the 14th inning to beat St. Louis, 6-5, at PNC Park. The Pirates get a thrilling comeback win the next night, too, to pull within 2½ games of the first-place Cardinals in what is the most thrilling regular-season series of McCutchen’s run with the Pirates.
July 30, 2017 — The Pirates beat the Padres in San Diego, 7-1, on the strength of three McCutchen homers.
Sept. 26, 2017 — In what proves to be his next-to-last home game as a Pirate, McCutchen homers twice and drives in eight runs in a 10-1 thumping of Baltimore at PNC Park.
