Kevin Acklin stepping down as Penguins' president of business operations

Kevin Acklin, who has served as the Penguins’ president of business operations since 2022, will soon be stepping down from his role.

“After seven incredible seasons with the Penguins, I have decided that I will be moving on from my role as President of Business Operations at the end of the season,” Mr. Acklin said in a statement Thursday morning.

“I’m grateful to Fenway Sports Group for the opportunity to help lead this organization, to my colleagues for their dedication, and to our fans for their unwavering support. It has been an honor to serve the team I grew up cheering for, and I look forward to continuing to support the Penguins as an advisor through the end of the year.”

Mr. Acklin joined the organization in 2018, serving as the team’s chief operation officer and general counsel before his promotion, handling day-to-day operations of the team's business. He filled a vacancy created when David Morehouse stepped down at the end of the season as Penguins president and CEO.

Prior to joining the Penguins, Acklin served as chief of staff and chief development officer for Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto from 2013-17. He also worked as chief legal officer for Peoples Natural Gas Company.

The move also comes at a time when Fenway Sports Group, the Boston-based group that owns the Penguins, started exploring the possibility of selling a minority stake in the team.

Mr. Acklin said he “will forever be proud to be a Penguin, and look forward to next steps in my career while continuing my service to Pittsburgh.”
