Penguins announce retooled rotation of TV broadcast color analysts for upcoming season

The Penguins on Wednesday revealed the rotating cast of color analysts who will work next to new play-by-play man Josh Getzoff on TV broadcasts.

The team and its new rebranded regional sports network, SportsNet Pittsburgh, announced former Penguins players Colby Armstrong, Phil Bourque and Mike Rupp will take turns as in-game analysts in the 2023-24 season.

Bourque, a longtime fixture on local radio dials, will mostly still work as the color commentator on radio broadcasts alongside new partner Steve Mears. But he will broadcast a select number of TV games on SportsNet Pittsburgh.

Armstrong and Rupp, meanwhile, will also do studio work for the new network.

The Penguins also announced Jay Caufield is staying on as a studio analyst.

The latest round of announcements came two days after the Penguins and the new network confirmed Getzoff would take over TV play-by-play duties from Mears and Hailey Hunter would replace Dan Potash as the rinkside reporter. Potash this season will shift into a full-time studio role for the network.

The odd man out among on-air talent in the massive reshuffling appears to be Bob Errey, a color commentator on television for nearly two decades. Errey is currently without a position after the team let his contract expire last month.
